Mountain information network

Next up is the Mountain Information Network (MIN). We want to read all the MIN reports in our region and take notes on relevant information.

How do we use it?

To get information simply click on any of the MIN symbols on the Avalanche Canada home page.

Please note: any symbols that are black indicate a fatality.

How to submit a report:

*You must watch the entire video before it will allow you to move on to the next lesson.

Different types of reports:

Quick report: The most commonly used report. Simply check the boxes that apply, add a photo if you wish and submit. Remember any information is helpful! Even if it was a good day with no avalanche observations that tells us a lot about what the conditions are like.

Avalanche report: use this when reporting an avalanche that you observed. Simply enter in any information you have. No judgement here, we are a community that needs to communicate & learn from each other. We all make mistakes but sharing about it can prevent someone else from making the same one.

Incident report: use this report when someone was involved in an avalanche. Once again any little bit of information is very helpful. Sharing our stories and mistakes can help prevent others from making the same mistake.

Weather report: if you are only reporting on the weather.

Snowpack report: If you dig a snow pit or would like to put in your snowpack observations this is the place to do it!

You do NOT need to be a professional to submit MIN reports. It is highly encouraged that no matter what level you are at you share the information you observe. The more we can communicate about what we see out there the better handle we will have on current conditions.
