    Join us for our Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 (AST 2) course and take your training to the next level.

     

    Join us to learn in depth about decision making, route finding, trip planning & more.

     

    The AST 1 is dipping your toes into the avalanche world. The AST 2 allows you to dive in head first & learn the skills necessary to travel safely through the mountains & make decisions as a team.

    If you have taken your Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST 1) and spent some time in the backcountry then
    AST 2 is your next step!

    » 4-day course

    » 9 hrs of classroom theory: Blended learning delivery involving a custom online course + an online Google meet session the evening before your first field day.

    » Online course can be completed anywhere at any time before your field days.

    When you register you will get access to our custom online course!

    You can complete this in the comfort of your own home. We will meet up online the evening before the field day to answer any questions & drive home key points.

    The online course must be completed before the first field day. You can split it up over several days/weeks.

     

    You will have access to the online course for 1 year from the time of purchase

    For every course registration a tree gets planted

    Prerequisites

    AST 2 - Ski / Snowboard

    » Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 (AST 1)

    » Proficient on your touring skis or splitboard

    » Comfortable riding in a variety of terrain (trees, alpine etc)

    »It is recommended to spend one season in the backcountry following your AST 1 before taking the AST 2

    Required equipment

    » Clothing appropriate for touring and standing in cold/snowy weather

    » Small personal first aid kit (sunscreen, moleskin, Band-Aids, medication, etc.)

    » Transceiver – 3 antenna

    » Probe – 3 meters

    » Shovel

    » Helmet

    »Backpack (large enough for all equipment on day tours)

    » Seasons pass or lift ticket for local ski area (discounted tickets available at some locations)

    » Downloading Fat Maps, having a snow saw + snow study kit are all beneficial but not mandatory

    AST 2

    $670 per person + GST

    *Does not include lift tickets at resorts to access the backcountry.

    Private Group Pricing:

    $2,800 + GST up to 4 people
    $4,020 + GST up to 6 people

    AST 2 Course Outline

    AST 2 courses are available in Golden, Fernie + other locations upon request.

    Day 1:

    7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

    Online classroom session.
    You must complete the online course before day 1.
    We will meet up online via google meet in the evening to drive home key points and answer any questions you have.

    Day 2:

    8:00 am – 4:00 pm
    Companion rescue refresher & advanced rescue skills
    Location: backcountry

    Day 3:

    8:00 am – 4:00 pm
    Decision making, terrain verification, stability tests while traveling ect
    Location: backcountry

    Day 4:

    8:00 am – 4:00 pm
    Planned & lead by the class
    Location: backcountry

    Refund Policy

    Online courses are non-refundable.

    14+ days before the start of your AST 2

    If you cancel your AST 2 course you will receive a full refund minus the cost of the online course if cancelled 14+ days before the start date of your course & have continued access to the online course. If you do sign up again in the future you will only be charged for the field days.

    0 – 14 days before the start of your AST 2

    If cancelled within 14 days of the start date of your course you will not receive a refund unless your spot can be filled.

    Please note that if the minimum number of people to run a course is not met the course will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.

    Covid Policy

    If you are sick with Covid 19 & can not make it to your scheduled course you will receive a credit to use at a later date with Stay Wild Backcountry Skills. We will work together with you to find a date that works when you are feeling better.

    You will be required to provide a positive covid test result to receive a credit.

    Please follow the latest CDC / provincial guidelines regarding covid.
