Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 – Ski / Snowboard


Want to take your training to the next level? Have you taken your Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 and spent some time in the backcountry? Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 is your next step! Learn safe travel techniques in avalanche terrain, progressive planning, how to access & use danger ratings on a local scale, proficiency with companion rescue, Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale and much much more. 4 days in total this course includes a combination of classroom time (9.5 hrs) and 3 days in the backcountry.

Can be split into two weekends! 

Prerequisites: AST 1, proficient on your touring skis or splitboard

Necessary Equipment:

  • Clothing appropriate for activity and standing in cold/snowy weather
  • Warm gloves, mitts, headband, and hat
  • Goggles and sunglasses
  • Small personal first aid kit (sunscreen, lip-balm, moleskin, Band-Aids, medication, etc.)
  • Transceiver
  • Probe
  • Shovel
  • Pack (large enough for all equipment on day tours)
  • Lift pass or discount card for local ski areas (if applicable)Will receive these items in class
  • Companion recue card
  • Avaluator
  • Decision making field book

Equipment for students traveling on skis:

  • Boots (appropriate for conditions and activity)
  • Skis (with touring bindings)
  • Skins
  • Poles
  • Small repair kit (ski straps, duck tape, zip ties, extra buckles)

Recommended equipment for students traveling on snowboards:

  • Split Board with touring bindings
  • Skins
  • Boots
  • Collapsible poles
  • Small repair kit (ski straps, duck tape, zip ties, extra buckles)

Map, compass, snow saw, snow study kit would all be beneficial but is not necessary.


$629 per person + GST

*Does not include lift tickets at resorts to access the backcountry.

Private Group Pricing:

$2,500 + GST up to 4 people
$3,775 + GST up to 6 people
$5,000 + GST up to 8 people

Refund Policy: If cancelled within 14 days of the course / camp you will receive 50% of your money back. If cancelled before the 14 day mark you will be charged a $35 processing fee and receive a full refund minus $35. Please note that if the minimum number of people to run a course is not met the course will be cancelled and you will receive a full refund.
