Let’s talk about: Surface Hoar ❄️

You know those days when you’re out, and the sun shining on the snow makes the world looks like its covered in thousands of tiny sparkles?
Although beautiful to look at, Surface Hoar can create one of the most dangerous weak layers in the snowpack once it’s buried.

There’s nothing we can do stop hoar frost from forming on the surface (but maaaan, do we wish there was 🧙). However, there are a few steps we can take that can help us navigate this notoriously unpredictable layer:
📝 Be diligent in your observations every time you venture out and watch weather patterns before you go
🌨️ If you see Surface Hoar forming, keep that in mind the next time a storm rolls in
✅ Check for Surface Hoar numerous times throughout the day
🗓️Remember that it can linger for weeks or even months, creating long-term instability
